Day #35 (92)-And then there was a desert. Miles hiked: 30.1

Boy it’s hard to leave a cozy bed and running water, but we eventually fueled up on gas station coffee (thanks Smarts for bringing the coffee to me and Rattle in bed) and got back on trail. It took two hitches to get back to trail, but into the Great Divide Basin we went.

Amazing how much the scenery changes in just a few miles on the CDT…but welcome to a desert for the next 200 miles. Also welcome to historic South Pass City.

There are 120 miles until the next town and I had a plan for how to make the miles: PBJ like a Pez dispenser. I took a loaf of bread, jar of peanut butter and container of jelly and got them all ready to go. No stopping necessary!

Also, as I walk across this historic desert I will be attempting to avoid disentery on the Oregon Trail.

There’s some weather moving in tomorrow night, but for now it’s all smiles and miles as we enjoy the clear skies and stars.

Goodnight from a cowboy camp among the sage brush.

Colorado spared nothing on me last night with a hard freeze and plenty of wind, but I was excited for my last CDT sunrise this hike nonethel...
