Day #37 (94)-Two choices: walk or turn into a Blueberry popsicle. Miles hiked: 41ish.

The weather definitely arrived last night in all its glory…wind, rain, lightning and more. Although it hasn’t been the continuous soaking rain of the AT, it was definitely going to stick around today.

Cell after cell came through and the temps never made it above 55. The wind also decided to contribute with sustained 25 mph but at least it was mainly a crosswind this time!

Although the Basin has been great for wide open views, I also haven’t seen a tree in over 60 miles which means the only shelter from the wind is an occasional cow trough. Only issue is when it gusts, you get a free overflow shower!

Because the weather has been so downright miserable, I made good time today because the only solution to not freezing was hiking as fast as I could. So I did.

The rain eventually diminished but I still couldn’t find a place where I could drive a tent stake into the ground (Rocky, hard soil), so Goodnight from a cowboy camp with my tarp ready to throw over myself like a blanket if the need arises. For this reason I know that I am alive.
