Day #6 (69)-The trail provides. Miles hiked: 18.5ish

Had any other part of this trip not gone as it has, and for the record it hasn’t all gone according to plan with permits and such, I wouldn’t be writing this post. But I am because I hitched back to the Looking Glass Basecamp hostel in East Glacier last night and met Freewalker, a Brazilian book publisher who has the same goals I do and was about to take the train home assuming he’d never find someone equally crazy. I’m thankful for my time in the park alone, but I’m overjoyed to have a hiking partner! Father’s looking out for me.

Freewalker is working from trail too and is finishing up a triple crown with an uncannily similar pace to mine and a shared since of the simultaneous freedom, flexibility and discipline this trail demands. Laundry first, but into the “Bob,” or Bob Marshall Wilderness we go.

Our first day out of Glacier was certainly eventful with an accidental alternate now that trails are numbered and not named and spotting the Sydney fire burning a little too close. After messaging my home team on my GPS tracker, we stumbled into the camp where the fire crew is staying as they work on that fire. Check out the wrap they put on their cabin to protect it!

After giving us the go ahead to pass by the fire, we scurried on through well after dark to put some good distance between us and the fire.

Into the official Bob tomorrow!
