Day #4 (67)-Creatures and Glaciers big and small. Miles hiked: 28.8

This morning I finally got a backcountry permit! It even came with the chance to watch a fun movie about bears and “little bears,” or other critters that might not hurt you but love to chew on your pack.

From Many Glacier (campground and lodge), it was time to head up and over Pigeon Pass. Featured along the way was a bull moose with a huge rack, some marmuts, and a very friendly pica that I almost could have caught bear-handed.

Oh, there was also a cute little snake out sunning himself across the trail. I can’t help but think about my grandfather Pap Dick (who is now in heaven) reminding me to watch my step.

The top of the pass was gorgeous and the wildflowers in the meadows on the way down took my breath away.

Not pictured-14 miles of half walking/half bushwhacking through raspberries up to my shoulders. I almost lost my voice from “hey bear” to alert any large critters to my presence. Goodnight from Red Eagle Lake!
