Day #3 (66)-Hello Canada and goodbye being comfortable. Miles hiked: 28.0

Today started with an early shuttle to the Canadian border at Chief Mountain. After a brief wave to the border patrol agent (and respectfully refraining from sticking my foot over the line no matter how tempting), it was time to get going.

The first 6 miles were fairly easy to knock out and I arrived to a beautiful pasture at Gable Creek complete with a ranger station and pit toilet!

After a few more miles on the valley floor, it was time to get my heart rate up and go over Red Gap Pass. Climbing over 2500 ft in less than 5 miles was challenging, but a few snacks and breathtaking views of surrounding mountains and glaciers made it worth it.

The second 15 miles of the day were much less challenging, but I had a good reminder of what it feels like to simply be on my feet for almost 30 miles. I know that in a few weeks it’ll get better, but for now, ouch!

However (knock on wood), no blisters! And plenty of huckleberries for me to eat and to also keep the Grizz fat and happy.

Many Glacier amongst car campers tonight, more passes to pass tomorrow!
