Day #25-Goodbye to mesas, preparing to greet mountains. Miles hiked: 14.8

This morning’s hike into Cuba, NM was a final up-and-over a mesa adventure with a nice road walk to round it out.

In good news, my feet decided to hold it together on the road!

After eating our fill at the local diner, we’ve been resting and doing chores (aka attempting to wash all the caked sand and mud out of our socks in the shower) at the local motel. Doesn’t take much to please a hiker.

After picking up our snow gear (extra layers, microspikes, ice axes) and my NEW SHOES at the post office in the morning, it’s into the alpine for this crew.

For those of you wondering, we are monitoring the fire situation closely and hoping to move quickly out of the potential forest closures before it becomes an issue. However, the journey is the destination and we are prepared to be flexible with our plans.

Update: now enjoying some beer, stretching, and a lunar eclipse
