Day #17 (80)-Pine mountains, kindred spirits, and smoky sunsets. Miles hiked: 32.1

I didn’t get much sleep last night…but not because of patient admissions at the hospital, but a meteor shower instead. It was a magical night to enjoy all the layers of the Milky Way.

The trail today has been the CDT version of the AT “green tunnel.” It’s been hot, not very breezy, and locked in by pines. However, they smell great!

The highlight of my morning was finding and hiking with another SOBO solo woman. She’s just retired from a family medicine career like the one I’m about to begin. We were certainly able to connect on many levels-and it was proof for both of us that there are other adventurous women in medicine!

The rest of the day was full of lackluster water availability and chafing, but that’s part of thruhiking too.
