Day #17-No rivers and roads. Miles hiked: 32.6

It was sad to leave the Toaster House, but we did catch a group photo at dawn before heading out on our quest to beat the heat.

The temperature swings in the desert tend to be fairly dramatic. Most days, I start in a hat and gloves to find myself peeling off clothes for our lunch break. Hikers dress in layers for a reason!

The name of the game today was crossing an open expanse of desert with private property (and therefore no water or camping) on either side. However, one kind rancher does put out water for hikers and allow them to take shelter in an old homestead. Thanks TLC ranch!

Aside from this oasis, the rest of the day was spent trying to mitigate the second foot meltdown I’ve encountered so far on this hike.

In other trail news, we saw a cloud! No rain, but it’s the first sign of any moisture for the past 17 days.

Not much else to report other than miles and miles more road walking until entering the Cebolla Wilderness and our first chance for camping.
