Day #12-Gila shenanigans continued. Miles hiked: 26.9

Although it was hard to leave the hot spring this morning, we had miles to make today with a limited food supply and over 100 miles to go to Pie Town.

For my gardening friends, did you know that mint naturally grows in the Gila??? I was amazed when I kept smelling it and found such a pleasant surprise.

Besides more crossings, the rest of the day was uneventful until we found a nice present from the local beavers. They had dammed up part of the river and made a conundrum for hikers with water well over my head and rock walls. Time for some climbing to avoid soaking packs!

But the Gila had to go out with a bang, right? I’ll take all the water I can get before we go back to drinking from cow troughs over 20 miles apart.

Goodnight from Snow Lake, the end of the water and the return to open desert.
